Social work is usually something that people like to put on their resumé, but rarely do it sincerely.
A couple of years ago the bases of a social project were placed right here in the dearest town of them all, in Gherla. Usually Italian scouts come every year to spend some time with the less fortunate. During this time the main aim is to give the children another, good perspective on life. Hopefully with the help of the games, crafts they learn they will become better citizens, better people.
After helping in for some years now, this year I felt something truly special.
The group arrived from Melegnano, near Milan.
First I was a little skeptical. I couldn't see anything worth seeing in them. I never thought they would leave a mark as big as this in my heart.
They started getting close to me with simple things: like making me coffee in the morning or just smiling whenever I arrived. It felt truly good.
After they've won me over with the simple gestures, my skepticism dissapeared and I started seeing things I thought they weren't even there. I finally discovered some virtues I thought were gone and never to be found again.
Their devotion towards the children was remarkable. They gave their everything in every little program. I learnt the value of simple gestures, patience, friendship. The work they did was sincere.
After a hard year this was a really good experience for me. Not one, but gizzillion "thank you"-s wouldn't be enough. And finally with some help from GoogleTranslate:
Grazie. Spero che questo non era un addio, questo è stato solo arrivederci.
