What the Day Owes the Night

Dear Girls,

Rainy, really depressing weather won the throne of the seasons.Autumn is upon us. So, if your in a gloomy mood and you'd like to cry your eyes out...Well, I have a treat for you!

Ce que le jour doit à la nuit - What the Day Owes the Night. An impressive and heartbreaking story.

It's Algeria, 1939. Handsome blue-eyed Younes (Fu'ad Ait Aattou) is placed by his destitute parents in the care of pharmacist Uncle Mohammed (a Muslim), and Aunt Madeleine (a Christian). Younes is renamed "Jonas" in order to facilitate a well-integrated life in the Pieds-Noirs community of Oran. Jonas later grows up with a group of close friends in Rio Salado, a veritable Garden of Eden where he's blessed with a charmed life and where he encounters the sublime Emilie (Nora Arnezeder), his impassioned and enduring first love. Circumstances and events begin however to turn against the lovers. During the fratricidal and bloody Algerian revolt, Jonas istorn by loyalty to his friends and the aunt and uncle who raised him - the values, traditions and love of country handed down to him by his proud father conspire to rupture his equally grand passion for Emilie. The dual loyalty that imbued many Franco-Algerians rips him apart... destiny calls.

I truly loved it. Plus it was in perfect harmony with the weather we're having nowadays.
